This year will see a massively popular property from ’90s hit the big screen when Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment’s Power Rangers debuts. For its part, the Power Rangers property has been well known in U.S. pop culture since the early ’90s when the live-action Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series premiered - though it pulled much of its footage from the Japanese show Super Sentai. Since the ’90s, the Power Rangers brand has evolved to include a number of other series, two movies, and countless toy tie-ins, but Lionsgate and Saban are rebooting the property and bringing it - once again - to the big screen.
The latest version of Power Rangers is a live-action blockbuster utilizing characters from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in a more modern and grounded take. Still, plenty of classic aspects of the beloved property will be included, not the least exciting of which being the Rangers’ Zords, which appear alongside the heroes in a new set of promotional banners.
Power Rangers NOW debuted five new banners promoting the upcoming film that depict the five heroes with their Zords. The Rangers are: Jason Scott as the Red Ranger (Dacre Montgomery), Kimberly Hart as the Pink Ranger (Naomi Scott), Billy Cranston as the Blue Ranger (RJ Tyler), Trini Kwan as the Yellow Ranger (Becky G), and Zack Taylor as the Black Ranger (Ludi Lin). Take a look at the banners in the gallery below:

Of course, these banners - like much of the marketing for the film so far - are on the darker side, indicating the tone of this new Power Rangers. Fan reaction to the more grounded, darker tone has ranged from tentative hope to decisive dislike - and some have compared the tone of the upcoming Power Rangers to that of 20th Century Fox’s failed Fantastic Four reboot in 2015, though it remains to be seen whether those comparisons have much merit until the film hits theaters.
That said, the banners do include the heroes’ classic catchphrase, “It’s Morphin Time!” which has also been included across many promotional materials including both the final U.S. trailer as well as the latest international trailer for Power Rangers. In addition to the catchphrase and the Rangers’ Zords, the upcoming film will include classic characters like Zordon (voiced by Bryan Cranston), Alpha 5 (Bill Hader), as well as Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) and her minion Goldar.
Certainly, it remains to be seen whether the combination of the beloved Power Rangers aspects and the new elements provided by screenwriter John Gatins (Real Steel, Spectral) and director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) come together for a successful film. But, with only a few weeks left until the movie hits theaters, fans will get a chance to judge Power Rangers for themselves soon enough.
