Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Pokedex has now expanded beyond its initial 400 Pokemon. Here are all the obtainable Pokemon through Pokemon Home. Pokemon Home is the first time since Pokemon X and Y a Pokemon title has been able to document every Pokemon to ever exist through the National Dex. The decision to not have a National Dex began since Pokemon Sun and Moon and the Nintendo 3DS. Since Pokemon Sun and Moon was the generation that introduced Pokemon Bank, the developers decided to make that the platform where trainers can keep track of their National Dex instead of a mainline title. This decision reached a lot of backlashes but was easily forgiven as trainers were still allowed to bring all of their previous generation Pokemon over with no problem at all. Although, Pokemon Sword and Shield mark the first time in series history where not every Pokemon would be able to exist in the game. Several Pokemon were cut from the title but trainers could now keep their older Pokemon in Pokemon Home. Only 400 out of the 890 of these Pokemon were available for capture in Pokemon Sword and Shield, until now. With the addition of Pokemon Home, trainers are now able to carry over a few extra Pokemon to the Galar region. This guide will show players how to obtain every Pokemon that is available to transfer from Pokemon Home to Pokemon Sword and Shield. 

During the E3 2019 Nintendo Treehouse conference, it was mentioned that not every Pokemon will be available in Pokemon Sword and Shield. This was met with the worst backlash in the history of the series. A protest broke out online to #BringBackNationalDex as trainers have sentimental value to this digital creatures. Several trainers have carried over these Pokemon since the third generation games with Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. The base game has an initial 400 of these creatures to capture, battle, and trade. Now, Pokemon Home has added a few extra of these creatures, even including a few legendary Pokemon. Here’s how to transfer over each of these previously unobtainable Pokemon into Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Every Pokemon Obtainable Through Pokemon Home to Pokemon Sword and Shield

In order to carry over these Pokemon from Pokemon Home to Pokemon Sword and Shield, they would need to exist in Pokemon Home, to begin with. This means transferring over these Pokemon from previous generations. Here is the list of all the new obtainable Pokemon that can be transferred into Pokemon Sword and Shield and how to get them originally. These are all ordered based on their National Dex number. Additionally, the original varients of Galarian form Pokemon such as Zigzagoon, Ponyta, Weezing, and more are available for transfer.

More Pokemon will become available later this year with the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. The Expansion Pass will include two different parts. The first, set to release in June 2020 is The Isle or Armor. The Isle of Armor will feature a brand new Wild Area to explore, brand new Pokemon, new clothing, and over 100 returning Pokemon from previous generations. While all the new Pokemon and areas are tied to a paid DLC, the return of over 100 Pokemon will be free as part of an update. Also, if these Pokemon already exist in Pokemon Home, trainers will now be able to transfer them over into Pokemon Sword and Shield. Additionally, the second part of the DLC is called The Crown Tundra. Similar to the first batch, new Pokemon will be introduced and an additional 100+ Pokemon will be added into the game data. The new content will also be paid while the return of older Pokemon will be free. It is confirmed that over 200 Pokemon will be added alongside this DLC, making the list of available Pokemon in Sword and Shield even larger.

Pokemon Home is reintroducing the Galar Region to Pokemon that aren’t available to be found. With the upcoming DLC, the grand total of Pokemon that will be available will be close to 600 Pokemon. While that isn’t even close to the maximum 890, the new adventure awaiting trainers with the Isle or Armor and the Crown Tundra is plenty of new content to keep them occupied. The DLC also plans to show off new Galarian forms of the legendary bird Pokemon Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres as well as brand new Regi Pokemon. The Wild Area in the base game was one of its greatest features and made the world of Pokemon feel much more explorable and organic. The DLC is planning to include two more massive areas for trainers to get through. To make it easier on the player when all these new Pokemon drops into Galar, start transferring all Pokemon to Pokemon Home. That way, players won’t have to worry about recatching them when the DLC drops. These new obtainable Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield bring many favorites home like the Kanto and Alola starters. Now players must wait patiently for the rest to drop later this year.
