The final evolutions for the starter Pokémon in the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield have leaked, and holy Hoenn do they look strange. As with all Pokémon leaks, consider this a spoiler warning. If the leak is legit, and it looks like it is, the article below will reveal the final evolutions for Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

The leaks have been coming in like crazy for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Last night saw the reveal of the full list of Pokémon cut from and kept in Pokédex for the upcoming Sword and Shield, and tonight offers more perspective on the complete roster that fans will find. Players can sometimes obsess over which starter to pick in a new Pokémon game. The adventure always begins with selecting a monster of fire, water, or grass in type, and that choice tends to become one of the best battlers in the trainer’s party. As that starter Pokémon evolves, players love seeing the new forms their chosen ones take, and some like to keep that surprise intact until the moment the evolution occurs.

Others, of course, want to know exactly what their Grass-Type will eventually become, so they wind up digging into leaks like this one or one of the many guides and forums that hold the eventual evolutions. This particular leak comes from ResetEra user Atheerios in a thread packed with all sorts of spoilers and rumors.

First up, above, is the final evolution of Grookey. The once small monkey has turned into a massive ape complete with grass, a curl, and a massive taiko-esque drum. Of the three starters, Grookey’s final form looks the most typical.

Next up is Sobble’s final evolution, above. This water-type Pokémon went from being tiny and adorable to confident and a tad smarmy. The slender evolution does bring Sobble close to his chameleon inspiration, of course, but the eyes and stance are a bit odd.

Finally, we have Scorbunny’s final evolution, as shown in the blurriest image above. What’s best about this image, of course, is that we can see Scorbunny’s final form’s name; it’s Cinderace, another fire pun… because this is Pokémon, and puns are just good business. Cinderace is a bit weird, but it’s a much stronger design than Sobble’s seemingly angsty form. This Pokémon looks pulled straight from a shonen anime, and that might just work well for the character.

As with all of the relatively recent Pokémon games, diehard fans will find emotional responses to the new designs throughout the Pokédex. They’ll love some, and they’ll absolutely despise others. The final evolutions in Pokémon Sword and Shield will surely draw divisive responses, especially as this game has already received flak in other forms. With signs pointing towards 400 Pokémon in this generation’s Pokédex, there will surely be lots to love and hate when the game drops.
