The PlayStation Now service is adding more PlayStation 4 exclusives in 2020, as Sony has announced that both Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be available for a limited time next year. There has been a lot of discussion regarding streaming games and how they will influence the future of the industry, especially now that Google Stadia is proving that such a service is viable, even if it’s still unrefined.
Sony has been involved in the streaming market since 2014 with its PlayStation Now service. It seems that all of the new entrants in the streaming gaming market caused Sony to take things more seriously, as it slashed PlayStation Now prices without warning. The fact that PlayStation Now works on PCs means that Sony already has a massive market for its streaming service, while Google and Microsoft are still trying to get their acts together with their own respective streaming platforms.
The PlayStation Now service has been gradually adding former PlayStation 4 exclusives to the service, including God of War. It’s now possible to play God of War on PC through PlayStation Now, and other PlayStation games will be joining it soon, as the PlayStation Blog has announced that Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be joining the service on January 2 and will be leaving on April 7. Overcooked! 2 is also coming to PlayStation Now on the same day. Horizon Zero Dawn is a highly-acclaimed action RPG set in a world where humans must survive in a harsh world that is overrun with machines. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is an action-adventure game that follows Chloe Frazer on her hunt for the fabled tusk of Ganesh, in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would it use it to start a civil war.
The addition of Horizon Zero Dawn is odd, considering the PC port rumors that have been circulating recently. There have been rumors that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC in February 2020, but that now seems unlikely due to the game coming to PlayStation Now. The ability to temporarily rent the game for a few months on PC would be cheaper than paying full price for it, which could badly affect the game’s sales during its release month, assuming that the rumors are true.
The PlayStation Now service has received some incredible games over the past few months, most notably Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Persona 5. The fact that Sony is releasing an amazing exclusive like Persona 5 on PlayStation Now shows just how serious the company is about its streaming endeavors. The only question now is whether Sony will continue to bolster its streaming service going forward, as the next console generation is only a year away?
