Plants vs. Zombies Online is a spin-off of PopCap’s popular tower defense games with some additional elements to give the game some additional longevity. Along with the traditional tower defense elements fans of the series have come to expect, it will also feature strategy, RPG, and even PvP modes.

The last beta test for the game happened in late 2013, but the next one coming up is taking place on March 24. The best part? There will be a PC version of the game, so even if you don’t have a Chinese phone number you can take part in the open beta, whenever that comes about.

The upcoming test will unfortunately be a closed beta, meaning the chances of getting in are very slim. That said, many of the features look to be welcome additions to this otherwise straightforward series.

The likelihood of Plants vs. Zombies Online ever seeing the light of day in the West is very slim, but surely with just a little effort (and translation guides) even fans outside of China will enjoy this uniquely Chinese take on the Plants vs. Zombies formula.

This discovery is just one of the many reasons why I love poking around on Tencent’s QQ Games website (or the Chinese side of the internet in general).
