WWE stars Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins are engaged. Both wrestlers have had an exceptional year professionally, with Rollins winning the Universal title at Wrestlemania and at Summerslam. Lynch, for her part, has climbed up the ranks to become one of the hottest acts in the company. Arguably at the peak of her popularity before even defeating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first ever women’s match to main event Wrestlemania, Lynch has since appeared on the covers of magazines and an upcoming video game. Now, the couple has topped off all that career triumph with some harmony in their personal lives.
In a recent interview with Ed Mylett, Rollins mentioned how though he only started dating Lynch this year, they’d been good friends for a long time. Describing their relationship as one where they’re crazy in love, Rollins told Mylett a story about the first time he met Lynch. Thinking of himself as a locker room leader, and believing it was his responsibility to try and get to know everyone, Rollins walked up to her and casually asked what her story was. As Rollins explains it, she gave him the long version and he was invested from start to finish. That level of being invested, and of being crazy in love, is reflected in the couple’s latest announcement.
Posting to her Twitter account, Lynch shared a photo of herself with Rollins. All smiles, with an idyllic background and a romantic caption, all signs seemed to point to an engagement - especially the ring on Lynch’s finger. The news was later confirmed in a post from WWE’s official account.
Rollins and Lynch are one of the many WWE couples. Miz and Maryse have been together for years, even starring in their own reality show. The relationships of Jimmy Uso and Naomi, Tyson Kidd and Naomi, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella, are familiar and have been featured on Total Divas. Even more private pairings, like Renee Young and AEW’s Jon Moxley, have acknowledged their relationship. In general, there might be something about the experiences that those within the wrestling industry share which make it easier to form romantic connections with those you work with. It’s a very demanding line of work, with constant travel and relatively few days of vacation. Finding love has to make those demands easier.
While examples of likable on-screen couples in WWE are few and far between, real life is another story. And who knows, with so many wrestling couples, it’s possible the next generation of stars will be the children of today’s fan favorites.
