Philo
Philo is an internet-based television startup situated in San Francisco, California, United States. It was merely an indoor experiment that was carried out using an aluminum
m foil to receive the antenna signals of the surrounding region when it was founded in 2010 at Harvard University. The goal was to send the signals immediately to computers stationed nearby. In 2017, Philo debuted its OTT Streaming services. It featured channels from Discovery Inc., A&E Networks, and AMC Networks, among others. Philo has been offered several relationships with significant corporations down the road.
Directv

Philo vs Directv: which one is better?
Philo and DirecTV are both TV Channels network providers that offer different channels and programs on the television set up in your house.
Take a look at the following features of Philo as well as DirecTV:-
Monthly Package: Expenditure
Philo
Philo offers more than 60 channels on any of your preferred devices at just $25 per month. You can watch the live streams of your favorite programs from your home.
If the user is willing to pay some extra charges, you can request additional premium channels like Starz.
Philo also offers a free trial of up to 7 days.
Directv
DirecTV plans start at $70/per month for which it provides 65+ channels
For $90/per month, DirecTV offers 90+ channels to its customers.
The Ultimate Package includes 130+ channels at $105/month.
The Premier package offers 140+ channels for a price of $150/month.
Local broadcasting channels
Philo
Due to the high cost and terms of local broadcasting channels such as ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, Philo does not offer them. Philo would not be able to provide these channels on an internet-based TV service due to the high cost of running them.
Directv
DirecTV on the other hand broadcasts local channels like CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC which enhances the services of DirecTV. However, the drawback is that these channels are not available in all geographical locations due to licensing issues.
Premium channels
Philo
Philo had long been criticized for not providing the premium channels. Hence lately, they have started offering premium channels at a few extra charges. These are Starz, Epix, Cinemoi, Reelz and MGM HD. These premium channels are not so popular as compared to those offered by DirecTV.
Directv
DirecTV offers much better premium channels like HBO, Actionmax, etc. The higher number of premium channels makes DirecTV a better option in terms of the channels offered.
Who has a Better DVR?
Philo
Philo provides an excellent DVR at an affordable price. A user can record the program of his choice that will be saved for up to 28 days after which the recordings are automatically removed from the system.
Directv
DirecTV also incorporates DVR but the storage is very much limited as compared to Philo. A customer can record 20 hours of content with a limit of a maximum of 10 episodes per series. The recordings are removed from the system automatically after 90 days.
Number of streaming device
Philo
Philo allows a user to stream any of the TV shows on up to 3 devices at a time. This streaming policy of Philo benefited the company in expanding its popularity across the states. One can install Philo on any of the devices he/she prefers.
Directv
On the other hand, DirecTV has an excellent streaming policy that leaves everyone speechless! They offer simultaneous streaming of 20 devices at the same time. With DirecTV installed on their home network, users can easily stream any of their shows to up to 20 devices at once. This plan is best suited for academic or hospitality institutions.
Philo and DirecTV offer similar features, but DirecTV seems to be the better option for quality services. One of the benefits of DirectTV’s premium channels is the ability to stream on as many as 20 devices at once. Additionally, it includes local broadcasting channels and sports channels. In contrast, Philo does not offer sports coverage, and users can only stream on three devices at once. Philo’s DVR is superior to DirecTV’s in terms of a storage utility. As Philo costs only $25 per month, it’s significantly cheaper than DirecTV, but it lacks local broadcasting channels such as FOX, NBC, ABC, and CBS.
Due to its features and quality service, DirecTV is considered a better option for a little extra money than Philo.
